We are looking for a researcher in biomedicine for a fixed-term position at the School of Medical Sciences.
Subject area
The subject area for this position is biomedicine.
Background
We are looking for a researcher in biomedicine to contribute to interdisciplinary research in cardiovascular biomedicine, funded by the Knowledge Foundation. The research focuses on understanding mechanisms underlying cardiovascular disease, particularly in the context of inflammation, infection and vascular pathology, and on developing advanced experimental models to investigate these processes.
The work integrates human cell-based models, advanced 3D multicellular systems, molecular and functional characterization, and omics-based approaches to investigate mechanisms of cardiovascular injury and disease progression. Particular emphasis is placed on inflammation and infection in the context of cardiovascular disease, vascular inflammation, and the development of physiologically relevant experimental models that bridge mechanistic research and human disease.
The research is conducted at Örebro University within a multidisciplinary environment and in collaboration with academic, clinical, international and industry partners. This provides opportunities to work across complementary experimental platforms and contribute to translational research aimed at improving our understanding of cardiovascular disease and supporting the development of future preventive and therapeutic strategies.
Duties and responsibilities
The current position is aimed at supporting and further developing research with a focus on experimental cardiovascular biomedicine, including studies of inflammatory, infectious and environmental factors relevant to cardiovascular disease, vascular inflammation, and advanced human-relevant models that link molecular and cellular findings to disease mechanisms and clinical relevance. The work includes advanced cell culture of various cardiovascular cell types, 3D cell models, spheroids and organoids, infection-related experimental models, flow cytometry, microscopy, and molecular and functional cellular characterization.
The researcher is expected to independently plan, conduct, analyse and interpret experimental studies and to contribute to the development, optimization and implementation of experimental methodologies within the research projects. The duties also include scientific publication and presentation of research findings, supervision of students, and collaboration with national and international research partners.
Qualifications
Those qualified for the appointment as a researcher are applicants who have obtained a doctoral degree or have a degree from abroad deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree.
Assessment criteria
As a general assessment criterion, the applicant must be able to demonstrate the personal qualities required to perform the relevant tasks, the ability to collaborate with other staff and the ability to contribute to the development of the research.
We are looking for a candidate with documented experience in experimental biomedical research and a strong background in infection biology and host-pathogen interactions, together with knowledge relevant to cardiovascular disease. Knowledge of atherosclerosis and its underlying inflammatory mechanisms is particularly advantageous.
Experience in advanced mammalian cell culture, 3D cell models, spheroids, organoids or organ-on-chip systems, and experimental approaches for studying infection, inflammation or host responses is considered a merit. Experience in multiparameter flow cytometry, fluorescence or confocal microscopy, and molecular and immunological methods is also advantageous. Experience with cardiovascular cell models, animal models (including mice experiments), vascular calcification, human iPSC-derived cells, and omics-based approaches will be considered an additional merit.
Particular importance will be placed on scientific competence, documented experimental research experience, and the ability to independently plan, conduct and analyse experimental studies. Experience of multidisciplinary and translational research is advantageous. Good oral and written communication skills in English are required.
