Do you want to join us in creating a more competitive and sustainable future? Do you want to make a difference, in an organisation that makes a difference? Do you have a PhD in economics or a related field? Help us to help others! Your application is welcome!
About us
Our mission at RISE is to promote sustainable growth in Sweden by strengthening the competitiveness and renewal of the private sector and contributing to the innovative development of society. The unit Sustainability Analytics belongs to the Department of Energy and Resource Transition in the Division of Digital Systems and Societal Transformation. Over the past ten years, team members have worked to build knowledge in circular business model innovation, circular business ecosystems and sustainability analysis at different system levels. We specialize in methods such as circularity measurement, life cycle assessment, choice modelling, techno-economic analysis and business model innovation and combine these methods to answer questions from multiple perspectives. We thrive at the intersection of the private sector, the public sector and civil society/citizens.
From an organizational perspective, we help our partners envision, understand and create sustainable, circular business ecosystems that prioritize longevity, repair and reuse. From a consumer perspective, we help understand consumption patterns and develop underlying logics, rules and norms with the goal of changing behavior towards sufficient and circular consumption. Together, this results in longer product lifetimes, higher utilization rates and material recirculation.
About the role As a researcher with us, you will, together with colleagues and partners, work in projects where you drive forward research on sustainable and circular business drawing from large datasets and analysis that filters signal from noise, allowing for confident decisions in industry and the public sector. We welcome researchers with experience independently managing large datasets and applying quantitative-, qualitative- or mixed methods to generate rich explanations and justifications for circular business models. Applicants with training in diverse academic fields are welcome, however experience working across disciplines is necessary, and experience with economic data is highly encouraged.
You will develop and deliver results that are directly applicable by companies, businesses and other organizations across industries, sectors and product types. The results aim to demonstrate how organizations can ensure a sustainable transformation of their business, operations and the system they operate in. Furthermore, you will work together with research colleagues within the unit and in the broader field of decision support methods and sustainability analysis of circular economy and resource efficiency. You will also have access to a broad network across RISE working in different ways with circular economy transitions, as well as with other technical and business-related experts.
In collaboration with your colleagues, you are expected to contribute with experience and expertise in ongoing and newly started projects. In the long term, we see you becoming independent and formulating and conceptualizing the decision support elements of large research applications yourself. The goal for the unit is that we, together at RISE, will advance the position of decision support and analytics for circularity and become one of the most recognized research institutes in the field.
Who are you? To thrive and succeed in this role, you are curious, humble and motivated to learn new things. You are able to build relationships and inspire confidence based on your competence and communication skills. You find it easy to cooperate in different constellations and enjoy the fact that the work is varied - e.g. in terms of industry, product and material - and sometimes unpredictable. It goes without saying that you deliver independent and impartial results.
Requirements for the role are as follows:
PhD in economics, business, or a related social science discipline
At least three years of experience conceptualizing, executing, and publishing research
Deep expertise in analysis of big data sets with quantitative, qualitative or mixed methodologies
Speak and write English fluently
It is an advantage for the role if you have:
A good understanding of circular economy and circular business models
Experience developing original and innovative ways to visualize data
Experience with economic modelling
Experience with research related to one or more of the following sectors: the built environment, furniture, textiles, consumer products, finance or energy
Applied for- and led externally funded research projects
A working proficiency in Swedish

You will work in a dynamic environment that gives you development opportunities both professionally and personally. With us, you get the opportunity to make a real difference. Welcome to the entire Swedish research institute and innovation partners!
