We are looking to expand our Swedish engineering team with a junior software / control systems engineer who is motivated to grow into a complex and specialized technical environment.

The role is focused on control systems for our waterjets, where software, PLCs, and HMIs interact closely with mechanical and hydraulic systems. You will work alongside experienced engineers and gradually take on more responsibility as your understanding of the systems grows.

Today, our systems are primarily based on PLC and HMI platforms, but we are currently developing our next-generation control system, which will be PC-based, running Linux, with Qt-based displays. This provides an opportunity to work with both established technologies and modern software platforms.

This position is well suited for someone early in their career who is curious, structured, and eager to learn how real-world control systems are built, maintained, and supported over long lifecycles.

Key responsibilities

Support development, maintenance, and troubleshooting of control software for industrial and marine systems.

Work with PLC-based control systems, learning to read, understand, and modify existing code.

Assist with configuration and development of HMI applications used in operational systems.

Participate in testing and validation using development and simulation environments.

Support investigation of field issues together with senior engineers.

Collaborate with colleagues in Sweden and support internal teams when needed.

Be part of the development of our next-generation control system.

Required qualifications

A degree in software engineering, automation, mechatronics, electrical engineering, or a related field.

Basic understanding of programming concepts and structured code.

Interest in industrial control systems, automation, or embedded/real-time software.

Willingness to work with existing systems and learn from legacy codebases.

Ability to work in a structured and careful manner, especially in environments where reliability is critical.

Good communication skills in Swedish and English.

Preferred (but not required)

Exposure to PLC programming (e.g. CODESYS or similar).

Basic knowledge of industrial automation or control theory.

Experience from internships, thesis work, or projects related to automation or embedded systems.

Interest in systems that combine software, hardware, mechanics, and hydraulics.

Personal qualities

For this role, attitude and mindset are more important than specific tools. We are looking for someone who:

Is curious and motivated to learn.

Is patient and methodical when working with complex systems.

Is comfortable asking questions and learning from more experienced colleagues.

Takes responsibility and follows tasks through to completion.

Enjoys understanding how systems work, not only writing new code.

What we offer

The opportunity to develop deep competence in a specialized technical domain.

A long-term role in a stable engineering environment in Sweden.

Exposure to real-world systems with long lifecycles and high technical requirements.

Opportunities to travel, as our customers are located around the globe.

The position is based at our head office in Uppsala and it is full time.
