Introduction

The Swedish House of Finance (SHoF) at the Stockholm School of Economics is Sweden's national center for financial research and an internationally oriented environment for research, knowledge exchange and societal relevance. SHoF brings together prominent researchers in financial economics and creates meeting places where academia, the financial sector and public decision makers can exchange knowledge, challenge established perspectives and develop new ideas.

As Executive Director of SHoF, you will have a central role in leading and further developing this business. The role combines strategic leadership with clear operational responsibility and offers great opportunities to influence how SHoF develops, is visible and creates value. You will work closely with some of Sweden's and the world's leading researchers in financial economics and at the same time have extensive contacts with the financial sector and other key societal actors.

Main responsibilities

The leadership of SHoF is shared between two people: Director and Executive Director. The Director is responsible for ensuring that SHoF's activities are academically relevant and of high scientific quality, while the Executive Director leads and distributes the work and has budget, personnel and work environment responsibility. The Executive Director is a full-time position located in Stockholm.

The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring that the business is managed in accordance with the Board's instructions. This includes, among other things, to

prepare the matters to be dealt with at the meetings of the Board of Directors

analyze issues of strategic and organizational importance

lead and distribute the work in the business

ensure that the business complies with relevant laws and regulations

ensure the long-term financing of the business

represent SHoF towards external stakeholders (together with the Director)

Tasks

The Executive Director shall take the measures necessary to ensure that the business is managed in an appropriate, efficient and satisfactory manner. This includes, among other things, to

implement decisions made by the board

recruit the necessary staff

sign the necessary agreements (in ongoing matters)

ensure the planning, budgeting, monitoring and reporting of operations

be responsible for the contact with the Stockholm School of Economics and other academic partners and coordinate relevant processes with these

Requirements profile

SHoF is a small organization with short decision-making paths and limited internal support functions, operating at the intersection of academia, policy and the financial sector. The Executive Director is therefore expected to understand and work effectively within an academic environment, but must also be able to interact with decision-makers in both the private and public financial sectors. The work includes handling a wide range of strategic, operational and administrative issues, which is why it is a requirement that the applicant has

experience of previous management roles

good administrative skills

ability to work independently

ability to prioritize and create structure in a creative (and sometimes chaotic) environment

a relevant academic degree

a strong interest in financial economics

good knowledge of English

In addition, the successful applicant should

be flexible and unpretentious

have experience in fundraising

be a good communicator

have experience from academic activities
